As part of our international collaboration with the Libyan healthcare community, foreign international specialists hold regular clinics at Saint James Hospital Libya.

Dr Stephen Brincat

Graduated from King’s college Hospital Medical school London 1979.

Research Registrar in Neurology King’s college Hospital London 1980/1981.

Consultant in Radiotherapy and Oncology 1988 to 2021

Chairman of Oncology Dept. Malta 1995 to 2012.

Director of Oncology Services St James Hospital Malta and Libya 2022 to date.

Conducted clinical trials as principal investigator for 10 years including studies of novel drugs leading to FDA approval.

Senior Lecture in Oncology University of Malta 1988 to 2021.

Dr Benjamin Galea

Benjamin Galea is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at St James Hospital, Malta from May2021 to date.

He is a cofounder of the St James Hospital Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, a new service to Malta offering specialist care to women with early pregnancy complications. He also works as a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta Nov 2021 to date.

Mr. Galea has completed his specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the East of England Deanery in 2020, obtaining advanced training in advanced labour ward practice, obstetric medicine, and acute gynaecology and early pregnancy at The Rosie Hospital, Cambridge. On completing his training, he was subsequently appointed as a Locum Consultant and Early Pregnancy Unit Lead within the same department from Aug 2020 - Mar 2021.

He’s passionate about ultrasound imaging and apart from being RCOG and IOTA certified, he is also an active member of ISUOG.

Dr Josie Muscat

1967 - Graduated M.D. from the Royal University of Malta.

1967 - 1984 - He started working in the field of infertility.

1987 - Set up the first comprehensive ART clinic in Malta.

He achieved a considerable number of successes with intratubal insemination. In 1999 carried out the first P.E.S.A successfully. Since then, carried out quite a number of TESH/PESA interventions.

1988 - Studied IVF techniques and protocols at the Lister Hospital under Hossam Abdalla MRCOG

1989 - Introduced ultrasound guided aspiration of ovarian cysts with subsequent regular follow-up. This has saved hundreds of people from having to undergo open surgery or laparoscopy.

1995 - Awarded a scholarship by the Italian Government and attended the University" Cattolica Sacro Cuor in Rome, where I studied and practised Pre Natal Endo cardiography and use of Doppler in obstetrics and gynaecology.

2018 - 2019 - was awarded the Diploma in Academic Prolotherapy by the European School of Prolotherapy in Ferrara, Italy.

Professor Ugo Orestano

1966 - Degree in Medicine and Surgery with first class honours, University of Genoa.

1969 - Postgraduate Diploma in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, University of Genoa.

1972 - Diploma in Clinical Orthopaedics Teaching at university level (Libera Docenza).

1972 - Postgraduate Diploma in General Surgery, University of Genoa.

1974 - Postgraduate Diploma in Radiology, University of Genoa.

1994 - Master Course Diploma (Teacher training (learning to train other teachers) given by the International Osteosynthesis, in Davos, Switzerland.

May 2005 - to this date he is presently occupying the post of consultant orthopaedic surgeon with the St.James hospital group in Malta and Saint James Hospital facility in Tripoli.

January 2002 - to this date: chief surgeon of the orthopaedic and traumatology sections of the Argento, Basile, Gretter and Valsalva private hospitals in Catania.

- To this date, out of a total of 10,100 surgical operations, 4350 were of major relevance. Among the latter, total or partial prosthetic replacement of hips, knees and slipped disks were performed.
